Benefits

For baby the benefits include interaction stimulation, relaxation, and relief. Within those benefits, are bonding, communication, respect, all vital organs and systems regulated, language and sensory development, improved sleep, reduction of stress levels and stress hormones, hormone balancing, relief of colic, tension, and helping with the discomforts of growing rapidly.

For Parents, the benefits are just as amazing! Many hormones rise to the occasion during pregnancy and after birth, with lots of contact, skin on skin, as the natural cycle takes place. For example, Opioids are the natural rewards hormone, morphine like chemicals, reducing pain awareness and creating feelings of elation, making the activities of infancy, for both parents and baby, more enjoyable and beneficial. Pheromones are the “basic instinct” interpreters; they are made on the skin, and cause us to react accordingly to other human Pheromones, organizing the brain and controlling hormonal releases to adapt to the environment. Pheromones are what make baby sensitive to stress level of caretaker, separation from caregiver, and, most importantly, response to touch; coincidentally, body odors and pheromones can only be sensed when people are physically very near each other! (Joke, “don’t worry, baby will not think you stink, baby will love your smell, unlike the adults) A decrease of stress hormones, and higher levels of relaxing hormones (such as oxytocin and prolactin), are a couple I have personally noticed in class.

Better understanding, reading cues, bonding, attachment, improved self-esteem and confidence, and chance to discover a baby’s uniqueness, are a few more of the benefits to parents and caregivers.

Testimonials

THANK YOU for that Infant Massage book!! Amelia woke up screaming in pain tonight and I didn’t have to feel helpless. I massaged her little tummy and she let out some gas and she’s back asleep. Such a blessing. Thank you for sharing it with me. – Kayla S.
